Christ Must Reign Until

Christ must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.
— 1 Corinthians 15.25

Sermon Summary

The Scripture says that Christ must reign until all enemies are under His feet, and this reign is already happening but not yet fully realized. Jesus is the firstfruits of the resurrection, meaning His resurrection guarantees that believers will also be raised in a similar, glorified body at His coming. The resurrection and Christ’s reign are connected; just as sin and death entered through Adam, salvation and life come through Christ, the second Adam.

Christ’s reign is ongoing now, even if not all things are yet in subjection to Him. Psalm 8, which speaks of God's creation and mankind’s dominion, is ultimately fulfilled in Christ, who is crowned with glory and honor and rules over all creation. The New Testament quotes Psalm 8 to show that Jesus is the one who has been crowned and given authority, and that He is reigning from the right hand of God.

Believers are called to reign with Christ until all things are in subjection to Him. This means we should ensure Christ reigns over us personally, live lives of trust and prayer, and see ourselves as agents of His reign in the world. We are to work toward bringing the brokenness, injustice, and rebellion in creation into subjection to Christ now, as His representatives, knowing that His reign is certain and will be fully realized at His return.

This hope transforms how we live—giving us confidence, trust, and a sense of calling to be part of God's ongoing work in the world until Christ’s reign is complete.
