“If God went to these lengths to make you family, why do you still wonder whether He’s listening?”
Sermon Summary
Ever feel like your prayers never get past the ceiling? Like the God who holds the universe couldn’t possibly care about your small, ordinary life?
Paul has a surprising answer, and he saves it for the moment right before he prays. In Ephesians 3, he stops mid-sentence to reveal a “mystery”: not something unknowable, but something once hidden that God has now brought into the light. For centuries, the promise to Abraham that every nation would be blessed seemed to go nowhere. The Old Testament ends with no throne, no kingdom, and the nations still far off. Then Christ arrived, and the outsiders, the Gentiles, which means nearly all of us, became fellow heirs, members of the same body, and sharers in the same promise.
Charles Spurgeon once imagined a heavenly parliament of angels trying to solve the impossible: how can a holy God be reconciled to sinful people from every nation on earth? Nobody had a plan. Then they watched God’s answer unfold in the incarnation, the cross, and the resurrection, and realized they never would have thought of it. That is the manifold wisdom of God, now put on display through the church.
Here is the turn: if God went to those lengths to bring you into His family, you can stop wondering whether He is listening. Boldness and confident access to Him were never earned. They were purchased.
Join us to discover why Paul says this is exactly why we pray.
