Fifteen Minutes in Guided Prayer by Psalm 27
Psalm 27
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you pray, leading you into fellowship with the Father through this psalm. Then take fifteen minutes and let the Lord begin the conversation. What does He want the two of you to talk about right now?
Father, may David's prayer guide us, a cry from one seeking Your face while surrounded by evildoers.
We begin by praising God as "our light and our salvation" (1), turning our attention from the fears around us and fixing our eyes on the King of Kings. Take a moment to tell Him why you delight in Him right now.
Having seen His beauty, we give thanks that the Lord has been "the stronghold of our lives" (1). Trouble abounds, yes, but He has delivered us before. Recall one time He has already delivered you.
With that saving grace fresh in mind, we confess that we do not always seek His face as He calls us to (8). Too often, Father, we want Your hand more than we want Your face. Sit in that honest confession a moment.
Like David, we too have enemies encamped around us, human or spiritual (3). Talk to the Lord about the enemies you are facing today.
Humbled, we are ready to ask Him to "teach us His way and lead us on a level path" (11). In the middle of your troubles today, tell the Lord you want to walk in His ways.
And we do not pray alone. We carry those we love who are struggling, asking that they would "wait for the Lord, be strong, and take courage" (14). Bring before Him the name of someone who needs to wait well.
We close as David does: "I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living" (13). Say it as your own.
